Electronic C-File Bill Introduced to House Veterans’ Affairs Committee

WASHINGTON (Aug. 11, 2020) — Wounded Warrior Project^® (WWP) applauds the introduction of H.R. HR 7926, The Veterans Access Act of 2020, by Rep. Terrance John “TJ” Cox. The bill will simplify the process for veterans to access their VA claims file, often called a C-File.

A C-File contains all of a veteran’s medical records, which are critical when applying for a compensation and pension (C&P) claim with the VA. With this bill’s passage, VA.gov will have a button allowing veterans to request and download their C-File electronically, instead of requesting a CD to be mailed.

“The Veterans Benefits Administration has done great work for years and modernizing how veterans are able to access their critical claims information would be another step in ensures veterans can keep receiving their benefits in a timely manner,” said Jose Ramos, Vice President of Government and Community Relations at WWP. “We’re grateful for Rep. Cox’s leadership on this issue, and we hope to see swift resolution on this bill and the reforms it will bring to the VA.”

According to the 2019 WWP Annual Warrior Survey, nearly 91% of warriors with injuries experienced more than three injuries or health problems. The survey shows 70% of warriors chose the VA as their primary care provider.
