Wounded Warrior Project Urges Support of Continued VA Fertility Coverage
WASHINGTON, June 13, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) urges the House Appropriations Committee to support a measure that would allow the Department of Veterans' Affairs (VA) to continue providing fertility coverage for wounded veterans and their families. WWP has long advocated this coverage, which would help nearly 2,000 veterans start or grow their families.
As a result of injuries sustained during service to our country, these veterans return home without the ability to have children naturally.
"Wounded veterans with dreams of starting a family deserve the opportunity to pursue that dream, and Congress should ensure funding is available to VA to provide these services," said WWP CEO Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Mike Linnington. "We encourage the Appropriations Committee to approve the continuation of this fertility coverage and appreciate the leadership of Representatives Charlie Dent and Debbie Wasserman Schultz as we honor our commitment to those who have given so much to this country."
In 2016, WWP led a coalition of veterans service organizations and partners to urge Congress to allow VA to provide fertility treatment and care. This effort resulted in passed legislation supporting fertility treatment for severely wounded veterans and their spouses and arranges adoption assistance for veteran families.
