50,000th Warrior Connected to Other Veterans Through Wounded Warrior Project
Organization Counts Up to 100,000 Registered Warriors

INDIANAPOLIS (Mar. 9, 2017) – Marquita Pate first learned of Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) while waiting to leave the military because of a disability.
“I was on orders in Virginia with another veteran waiting for our separations,” said Marquita, a Navy veteran. “She told me about Wounded Warrior Project and helped me enroll.”
Marquita became the 50,000th warrior to register with WWP. She helped the organization reach that milestone in March 2014. Three years later, WWP is approaching another major mark – registering its 100,000th warrior.
Since she signed up, Marquita has focused her attention on WWP’s family-friendly connection events: trips to the zoo; the children’s museum in Indianapolis; and most recently, a trip to King’s Island, a theme park near Cincinnati.
“I enjoy bonding with other service members and their families,” Marquita said. “The camaraderie with them and the respect and kindness from Wounded Warrior Project staff members really make a difference.”
These events do more for Marquita and other warriors than just providing a fun chance to connect.
“Wounded Warrior Project helps me cope and understand that I am not alone when it comes to post-traumatic stress,” she said.
WWP connects wounded warriors with other veterans, their communities, and the organization. It serves these men and women with free life-saving programs and services. This empowers warriors to live life on their terms and mentor other veterans.
“I feel grateful and thankful for Wounded Warrior Project,” Marquita said. “I'm able to celebrate and enjoy life with my family through the events the organization offers.”
WWP programs and services assist injured veterans with mental health, physical health and wellness, career and benefits counseling, and connecting with other warriors and their communities. Generous donors make it possible for wounded warriors to take part in connection activities and benefit from program resources at no cost to them.
